
576 lines should be enough for anyone. With a Panasonic A2 video camera (not camcorder, it’s from the days where the VCR was still separate), with a sort of home-made capture system that actually gets the full resolution out of it. It could also do videos of course, but it’s surprisingly usable for stills? I think? maybe?

the resolution is a bit limited but the lens is actually quite neat in its uhm, not exactly first class quality, and the autofocus makes this kind of shameless self show off / portraiture much easier than the other cameras from my museum of outdated trash. Also I find the color rendering pleasingly bad. There’s a white-balance button on the camera that usually makes it even worse. By which I mean better.

This doesn’t look at all like VHS, because there is no VHS in it, and VHS is actually quite a bit worse in quality than the video cameras themselves.
Amusingly this is technically analog photography, since the sensor vacuum tube and everything else in the picture path is all analog.
